You’ll have to forgive my shaky camera skills at the beginning, but I think the spontaneity and charm of this performance by The Elwins shines through anyway. This was at an intersection during the day as part of NXNE. As you can see, quite a few people walked by and didn’t stop to watch (shocking to me!). Still, loads of fun. The unofficial day events are the best (yes, I might still be full of quite a bit of NXNE nostalgia).
My week has been packed full of music thanks to NXNE. I have to say that it was an incredible experience, and it was definitely one of the best weeks I have ever had. I’ve been trying to express it all in words as I went along (parts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 can be found at Grayowl Point), but a picture is worth a thousand words, right? Here’s a bit of what I’ve been up to.
Left to right, top to bottom: Most People, EXITMUSIC, Purity Ring, Purity Ring, Hooded Fang, The Elwins, Young Magic, Sexy Merlin, Sean Nicholas Savage, Mozart’s Sister.
I’ve got a few videos left to post, too.
Here’s the Elwins covering Beyonce’s Countdown. It’s part of a free EP they made for Record Store Day yesterday (there’s also a remix by the incredible T H O M A S). If you missed their set at Soundscapes in Toronto, you can get it for free at their bandcamp page. These guys are a lot of fun live, and incredibly hilarious between songs too. The best part was probably them teaching the packed record store the lyrics and dance moves to one of their songs: “What’s a foooox? What’s a fox without a tail? Spread your wings, spread your wings and learn to sail”.
